My work seeks ways of extracting magic out of the mundane. My interest in this has derived from years of experience working in the grey zones - waiting tables and running office jobs in the high tech industry. My practice distills the images surrounding the every day, its repeatability and the anxieties it provokes to a language of mythological icons and symbols. The result resembles a trailer for an unknown story, a dreamlike scenario of an alternative existence. On the surface an eye candy of familiarity yet on second look, threatening in its different placement. I've started working under the pseudonym VanillaRoyal in 2007 as an exclusively online artist, one of the first in Israel. This made up name was created to make a clear cut from the real world, to form a space where I can be truly free. The online artworks have since found their way out using my extensive knowledge of crafts and technology create work that is now presented in galleries, private collections and public spaces, reaching broader audiences and infiltrating different forms of dialogue.
